Ever since Penelope Schwartz’s husband died of a heart attack at Club Incognito, she has been obsessed with learning more about this exclusive club.  But the patrons of Incognito keep their secrets close to the vest, and she finds her way in continuously barred.

When Penelope is discovered in the club at the same time a mysterious fire breaks out in the club, she is the primary arson suspect.  But the men who found and resuscitated her during the blaze know deep down that Penelope couldn’t have set the fire.  They recognize a woman who is lost, in need of care. Neither Joe nor Blake can resist this damsel in distress, especially when she exhibits the most naturally submissive nature they’ve ever seen, calling to their own Dominant natures.

With the ninth release in their popular INCOGNITO series, Madison Layle and Anna Leigh Keaton once again treat readers to the romantic side of BDSM relationships.  But PURSUING PENELOPE goes beyond the romantic, showing the very essence of these non-traditional couplings – the nurturing that Dominants provide to their submissives.  This is a core element in all of the INCOGNITO books, but it is never more evident than in this story.

The nurturing that comes naturally to Joe and Blake is exactly what Penelope needs after a lifetime of being subjugated by uncaring men.  Under the loving care of these two Doms, Penelope blossoms, freed by the ability to make her own choices.

Once they realize what Penelope has suffered at the hands of the previous men in her life, Joe and Blake are reluctant to claim Penelope for themselves, no matter that each recognize their growing feelings for her.  Hoping to allow her time to find herself and her independence, these romantic heroes hold themselves back, even while ever fiber of their being screams out to stake their claim.

Of course, Penelope will have none of that, and although she begins the story shaken, too scared to ask for what she wants, by the end of the tale she has grown immensely.  She knows what she wants and she finally has the fortitude to reach for it.

I have to say that I wasn’t sure about a story for Penelope after reading of her in the earlier books.  However, the history that Ms. Layle and Ms. Keaton create for Penelope do more than explain her previous behavior, it cements her place as a woman that readers will care about as much as Joe and Blake do.  Combine that history with the current threat that has surfaced from her past, and readers will find themselves ensconced firmly on Penelope’s side.

Of course, where would an INCOGNITO story be without the sexual intensity to match the emotional impact?  PURSUING PENELOPE definitely has both in equal measure.  The love scenes are plentiful, with ‘love’ being the operative word.  While decidedly erotic in nature, given the ménage and BDSM themes, the way these characters feel for each other is never anything less than romantic.
