The world of Krypton is doomed, with impending threats that encompass everything
from alien attack to natural disasters. With a council who has become
lackadaisical in its approach to change of any kind, the only hope the planet
has is the eminent scientist Jor-El.
Despite the roadblocks put up by Krypton’s leaders, Jor-El is determined to save
his world from utter destruction. With the support of his wife, Lara, he
pursues a solution relentlessly.
When tragedy strikes, the balance of power shifts into the hands of Zod, who
allows Jor-El a little more scientific freedom than the now defunct council.
But does Zod have the planet’s best interests at heart, or is it merely a part
of his move to position himself as absolute dictator of the world?
The story of Superman is well-known to all. But little has been told about his
home planet of Krypton and its destruction. Kevin J. Anderson handles that
ambitious task with his usual aplomb, delivering a tale that is somehow full of
hope, even though the fatal ending is unavoidable.
Mr. Anderson tells a story of how individuals meet the end with courage,
striving to save everything they know and love, not to mention their very
lives. He shows how an ignorant group doom the planet with their reluctance to
change their ways. He demonstrates how a greedy few bring the end to a rapid
conclusion with their selfish grab for power.
Along the way, we enjoy watching the romance of Cal-El’s parents, Jor-El and
Lara. This couple works tirelessly for the good of their people, even when it
seems everyone and everything is working against them. And when the end is
certain, we see their last ditch effort to save their own child, even if they
can’t save themselves.
Thus a legend is born.
THE LAST DAYS OF KRYPTON will thrill lovers of the Superman
mythos, with an inspiring tale of persistence in the face of adversity and
unwavering goodness that fights all odds.
