Mia Kerstin’s family is ultra-conservative, adhering to their Asian traditions in a way that is slowly smothering her.  She has few outlets for her secret wild side, but all that changes the moment she finds herself in the custody of a man who threatens every good-girl stricture she has adhered to for so long.  Without a doubt, Trace Kocourek could tempt even the most virginal woman alive, and Mia is no exception to this fact.  Against her better judgment, this man stirs parts of her that have never felt such excitement before, sending her emotions in a tailspin from which she’ll likely never recover.

For Trace’s part, he never expected to crave the little Asian beauty that he agreed to play bodyguard for.  With her life threatened by a man intent on retaliation against her best friend, Trace has been tasked with protecting her.  The best way to do that is on his own turf, where he knows the lay of the land and has a state of the art security system.  He never imagined that sequestering himself with this hot little lady would drive him to distraction or that her innocence would tempt him beyond resistance.

I haven’t yet read a story by author Dawn Ryder that I didn’t enjoy, and I don’t expect that to change in the near future, if ever.  This is an author who I know can be relied on to combine my two favorite elements in a romance story:  sexual intensity and emotional connection.

With POINT OF COMBUSTION, Ms. Ryder does it again.   Thrusting Mia and Trace together 24/7 while he is protecting her from the story’s villain provides a natural way for their attraction to advance at a rapid pace, allowing us to enjoy the consummation of their growing love sooner rather than later, a much needed trait for a novella.  But the author doesn’t rush the sex, she allows it to build, with the characters experiencing several sensual encounters that tease our intrepid couple as well as the reader until all hit the breaking point where passion overrules those pesky warnings in their minds telling them it isn’t a good idea…  And when trace and Mia do finally come together, the scenes are as absolutely molten hot!

The catalyst for their being together is a threat to Mia’s life, and Trace is a fantastic bodyguard.  But having trained in the martial arts, Mia is not without her own defenses, making for one kick-ass heroine!  Of course, she has never before come up against the likes of the nasty Ramos, and is way out of her league against a ruthless killer like him.  Still, Mia proves more than once that she can hold her own, an important quality in the woman a man with as many enemies as Trace will spend the rest of his life with.

Just like its heroine, POINT OF COMBUSTION is a kick-butt little action/adventure romance that will leaving you wanting more!  Lucky for us, there are several connected books in this series:  CHALLENGE PROTOCOL and OUTSIDE PROTOCOL.  While the three stories are connected, they can easily be read as standalones, or in any order you prefer.  Of course, once you’ve read one, you will want to read the others, so you might as well pick them all up at once!  *grin*
