Orphaned while a only a child and then given into a life of indentured servitude, Rhiannon never suspected she was actually born of nobility.  When a secretive stranger buys her contract from her mistress and carries her off to parts unknown, she is understandably worried.

Even more worrisome is the undeniable effect this man has on her libido…

There are a multitude of reasons Tristan must bring Rhiannon to his castle, and only a few he is willing to be forthright about.  The most unexpected of these reasons is the way his body aches to possess the lovely damsel, not to mention the unwelcome effect she has on his heart.  Tristan knows he is no good for Rhiannon, but that knowledge doesn’t stop him from taking her again and again.

Tristan’s life-long friend Gareth wants Rhiannon for himself, and he can offer her so much more than Tristan is willing to give.  Rhiannon’s heart is torn between the two men, even while her mind tells her the logical choice.  But since when does logic have anything to do with love?

I’m a huge fan of Anya Bast’s work, and so when STRANDS OF SUNLIGHT came up for review, it moved right up to the very top of my to-be-read pile.  The part of me that loves a good ol’ smutty romance was thrilled by this story!  Anya Bast writes some wickedly hot love scenes to rival the best.

Rhiannon is a great romance heroine – she is strong, intelligent, resourceful, and kind.  She can take care of herself and is fiercely protective of those she loves.  With such impressive assets, it is no wonder that both Tristan and Gareth want her for themselves.  Of course, her great beauty only adds to the allure…

Tristan plays the part of the requisite tortured hero in this tale.  This medieval bad boy tries so hard to be noble and do the right thing where Rhiannon is concerned – at least at first.  It isn’t long, however, before his more primal needs win out over his good intentions and he engages in some love scenes that would make anyone hot under the collar in the very best of ways.

Gareth rounds out the cast by playing the upstanding suitor who is determined to do right by Rhiannon, no matter what.  He is the kind of good guy that any woman could easily fall for, and he makes it extremely hard for Rhiannon to make up her mind about who to spend her future with.

Throughout their rivalry, Tristan and Gareth never lose their comradery, even though they are both vying for the same woman’s attentions, a fact that just makes them all the more attractive.

The only thing that kept me from rating STRANDS OF SUNLIGHT higher was I felt that some of the plot advanced a bit too rapidly, especially in Rhiannon’s case.  She adapts so easily to her new surroundings and station, but I felt like she might have a bit of a harder time with the details of such a change, especially manners, social graces, deportment, etc.  Instead she came across like she had been raised with the proper training for a lady of her new station.

All that said, it wasn’t enough to make me dislike the story.  I don’t think it would be possible for Anya Bast to write a story I don’t enjoy.  While this one may not be perfect, it is still a heck of a lot of fun!

For a sexy romp full of magic and fantasy, pick up a copy of STRANDS OF SUNLIGHT!
